Holy
Moly! What a weekend. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike hit the
tri-state, with winds up to 80 mph. It was crazy! I really wish that I got pictures of us out in the wind, but I just didn't think the storm would last that long or that it would effect so many people. No one knew it was going to hit the way it did. We thought we were going to get some rain and that was it, but we didn't get any rain at all, just wind, wind, wind. So it was a big shocker...I have never seen anything like it. It really made me think of the ones in Texas that did get hit by the real deal (rain and wind). Hurricanes are no joke, and I feel for everyone that has gotten affected by this aweful storm! It took our electricity out on Sunday around 1:30pm and it didn't come back on until Monday at 2:00pm. We got lucky! Many are out of power still and may not get power back till the weekend!!! There were around 700,000 people without electric! They are closing schools, businesses....and the gas pumps and search for ice is just nuts! We are very lucky that we only had to do one night! Carson and I slept on an air mattress in the living room b/c in our room upstairs there is only 1 window, well that window has an air conditioner in it! So we slept downstairs with a nice breeze! Here is a video of Carson first experience with a flash light!
This is a tree that went down across the street from our house at the Convent. The Convent was used in the movie Rain Man...the driveway with all the big trees. Well since then they have cut down all the big trees and replaced them with little ones, but this one is a big one that was up in front of the building! Not Any More!!! Nuts!
